We have had a great first two weeks with the children and are really pleased with how they are settling in.

We would like to share the following information with you:

As from the week beginning Monday 16th September, school will start at 8:55 am and end at the usual time of 3:10 pm.

PE KITS

Please ensure that your child has a PE kit in school on Fridays.  You can leave it on their peg during the rest of the week and we suggest taking it home during the holidays to wash it.  Please make sure that every item of PE kit is labelled with your child’s name – when thirty children get changed at once there are always items that go astray and if they are named it is much more likely that they will be reunited with their owner!

PERSONAL BELONGINGS

On the same note, everything that your child brings into school should be clearly named, for example, uniform, including shoes, book bags, water bottles, hats and so on.  Again it is much easier to return lost items if they are clearly named.  If you use a pen to name items, please check that the name is still on there after washing, as often they can be washed out or become blurred.

READING

Your child has been given a reading book and we encourage you to look at it with them everyday.  There is further information about helping your child to read at the front of their reading records.

BOOK BAGS

Your child should bring their book bag into school every day because they will need to read and have their books changed whenever possible.

BEING SCHOOL READY

Now that your child is at school full-time, there are many things that they should be learning to do independently.  For example, getting dressed and undressed, toileting, putting on shoes and taking them off, therefore, could you please encourage your child to do these at home independently as much as possible.

SPECIAL REQUEST

We are always in need of parent helpers to read with the children and change books, if you have a few hours to spare one day at week to help please let your class teacher know.  We also need items for junk modelling, eg.  cardboard boxes, plastic pots, cardboard tubes etc.

PUPIL PREMIUM

At Wormley Primary School, we believe that every pupil should have the opportunity to achieve the best possible start in life.  We are committed to breaking down any barriers to outstanding achievement and attainment; one of the ways we do this is through our use of a Government grant called Pupil Premium.  Children of families who are in receipt of certain benefits may be eligible for this grant which is paid directly to schools to provide educational support to help pupils achieve to their full potential.  To find out if your child is eligible, details can be found by searching Free School Meals at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk or come into school and we will be happy to help you.

Finally, if you have any questions or worries at anytime, please do not hesitate to speak to one of us!
