Welcome back!

We hope you have had an amazing summer and are ready for all the interesting things we have planned for this term.

Topics

We have come back to school with a BANG starting our Great Fire of London topic with a History Off the Page workshop. We went back in time to 1666 dressed up as Stuarts walking along the street of Pudding Lane. We worked in professions of the Stuart era and became Pewterers, Candle Makers and Doctors making our own herbal medicines.

As part of the workshop we also become archaeologists, exploring artifacts and remains that were saved from the fire. Using these clues we had to infer which profession these artifacts would have belonged to and why they were saved.

Our Science topic this half term will be ‘Animals Including Humans’. We will be finding out how to keep our bodies healthy, how animals and humans grow and we will be learning about the different animal groups.

Swimming

We will be going swimming every Monday afternoon until Christmas. Please ensure that you have appropriate swimwear, a swimming hat and a towel. Goggles are optional. This all needs to be in a named waterproof bag.

P.E

We have P.E on a Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your named kit is in school. For the winter months you may wear navy jogging bottoms and a navy sweatshirt.

Reading

Please ensure that you read every night and your reading record is signed. Children are expected to be able to read 90 words per minute to be working at age related in year 2 so please make reading a priority and snuggle up with a book each night.

Rainbow Words

You will be sent home with a list of high frequency words that you need to be able to read and spell. When you are ready let an adult know and you will be tested in school. Good luck!

Nativity

In Year 2 we will be doing a Christmas production so look out for a blog post nearer the time for more details.

If you’d like to find out anymore information, then please speak to a member of the Year 2 team.
