Over the last couple of Wednesdays the year 1 children have been to visit Broxbourne woods. They started with thinking about what animals, birds and insects live in the woods, what we can learn from them and how to respect their habitat. We went on a nature walk around the sculpture trail and identified lots of flora and fauna. Each team then completed a word puzzle which involved finding 18 paper ladybirds hidden around the woods and decoding the letters to reveal a secret message. Once completed we finished the morning with a den building competition, each group had to make a den to fit everyone in. The children worked incredibly hard collaborating well to organise their group and make a plan. Then helping each other to carry sticks over fallen trees and arranging them all into place to complete the challenge. They were able to assess and manage the risks involved and solve problems along the way. The children had a great time and it was amazing to see so much learning in action. Well done year 1!
