On Friday, 20th October, we opened the doors to our museum galleries. The aim of the morning was to share the historical enquiries of the term with the children’s families and to enable the children to justify their findings. Each class had a question which formed the basis of their enquiry such as ‘Who was to blame for the Great Fire of London?’ or ‘Vikings, raiders or traders?’.

The children set up artefacts, activities, dramas, games and other learning activities to communicate what they had learned. Many children dressed in the costumes of the era in history they were studying.

It was an amazing morning and there was a real buzz around school. Our local curator from Lowewood Museum in Hoddesdon, Catherine Hammond, visited for the morning and was really impressed, writing,

” I honestly was so impressed by the quality of the displays, the work and the learning – especially the confidence of the pupils as they talked me through their activities, and the thoughtfulness of their justification. It’s a long time since I have seen history showcased so well in a school”

Here are some photos from the morning..
