Our social learning this year is all about 3 new learning words: collaborate, justify and reflect.
At our first INSET day of the year, teaching staff and governors discussed and sorted a range of ‘learning words’ into three groups: those we thought that were ‘in the bag’ and used confidently by pupils, those in the ‘storage bag’ that would be important but for another time and three words in the ‘carrier bag’ that we thought were the most important for the children this year.
Collaborate, justify and reflect have been chosen and will be developed with the children through enrichment days, lessons, collective worship and just about any learning the children engage in this year.
Look out for opportunities to join in with our social learning. Your first opportunity will be Living History day (20th October) where the children plan to ‘justify’ the outcomes of their enquiries about a period of British history. You will help decide how well they have justified their findings!
Many congratulations to our newly appointed Pupil Parliament members who have been voted by their classmates to represent them this year.
Each candidate presented to their class and convinced them that they have the skills and ideas to make a difference to school life.
Following the first meeting, the representatives will be talking to their classes about what they aim to achieve this year.

Did you know that three children in every classroom are likely to have a diagnosable mental health condition?
We will be raising awareness of good mental health and well-being by joining in with national Hello Yellow Day. Throughout the day the children will have the opportunity to experience a range of activities designed to promote good mental health and emotional well-being. Each child will receive a special yellow sticker to wear on the day but they are also invited to come dressed in yellow clothing or with yellow accessories.
This year Wormley Primary is participating in the national Well-being Award because we want to maintain the well-being of everyone in our school community. We will be raising awareness and providing opportunities to explore techniques to improve well-being through a wide range of activities inside and out of the classroom.
Why does it matter?
Hearing all about the growing of beans in the Philippines to create harvests to feed families and sell for an income, Reverend Hudson tried to beat the World Record for the amount of baked beans that can be eaten with a cocktail stick in 1 minute!
The record is 66.
Unfortunately Reverend Hudson only managed 37! But he put great effort into this – so well done!
Thank you for all your generous donations of food for the Wormley Food Bank and money for the Bishop’s Appeal.
The 2017 Bishop’s Harvest Appeal, ‘Full of Beans’, is supporting the development of community projects which transform the lives of people in the remote rural villages of the Philippines – in the Tinglayan mountain district. They have discovered their soil is perfect for growing high quality beans.
KS1 and KS2 children share stories about the Philippines and the bean projects at the Harvest Festival at St Augustines Church on Thursday 28th September. We give thanks as we count our blessings through prayers, stories and poems. Food donations will be given to the Wormley Food Bank and money donations will go to the Bishop’s Harvest Appeal.
