Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely Christmas spent with family and friends and are looking forward to a short term ahead.
Our topics this term are:
History- Who was the lady of the lamp?
Science- Materials

In Maths we are covering calculation with a focus on mental fluency and number magnitude. By the end of this week your child would have been given times tables to learn at home ready for a weekly test. By the end of year 1 the children need to be confident in counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and now in year 2 need to apply this to times tables.
In English we are developing and applying our use of grammar by knowing what verbs, adverbs, nouns and adjectives are. We are also writing a biography and descriptions linked to our history topic. One of our main focuses in writing across all of our subjects is the correct use of full stops and capital letters so please reinforce this at home. Again, a weekly spelling test will take place and these word lists will be sent home with the times tables.
Guided reading is again a huge focus in class and takes place every day. We are exploring comprehension texts to help us develop our understanding and our ability to answer questions accurately.
IT IS A REQUIREMENT THAT YOUR CHILD READS EVERY NIGHT. It is a year 2 expectation that your child is able to read 90 words per minute of an age related text to be working at the expected standard. Please remember to sign reading records as we keep a log of who has read in class.
Cosy up with a book before bed time and enjoy the experience with your child!

Collaborative Inference Day
On Monday 29th January the children will become reading detectives and will take part in a fun filled investigative day. They will develop their collaborative and inference skills by solving clues to reveal a mystery person. For this day the children may come into school dressed as detectives to really get into role! #poirot

Keep checking the blog to find out more information regarding our SAT’s information evening. A letter will be sent out this half term with a date and times.

Au revoir!
