Welcome to Reception! We know that it can be a nerve- wracking time when your child starts school but our aim is to make it as easy as possible for everyone involved.
We’ve had a lovely week getting to know the children in Angelfish and Starfish and have been really pleased by how well they are settling, including at lunchtimes. We’re looking forward to the children staying all day from next Monday (10th) and all of the exciting learning that will happen this term.
We would be grateful if you could fill out your hopes and wishes card and return it to school along with a photograph of your child with their family as soon as possible so we can create our display based on this.
We are always on the look out for helpers! If you can spare any time during the week to either change reading books or listen to children read, we would love to hear from you-please speak to one of the team. If you have DIY skills we would love to hear from you too, we’ve always got a project or two in mind that we need help with!
Tapestry will be online soon. If you haven’t already done so, please give us your email address if you would like to view your child’s journal online.
Please take note of the following information to help things to run smoothly for us all:
School starts at 8.55am and ends at at 3.10pm. Please let us know if you are going to be late to pick up your child and make sure that you give your chosen password to anyone else who picks them up.
Lunches are chosen on the day-please talk to your child the night before or in the morning about what they would like for their lunch so they are ready to make their choice when they come into school. Please remember that in line with our Healthy Schools policy, children are not allowed to have crisps, chocolate or sweets in their packed lunches.
PE is on a Friday. PE kit is black or navy joggers or shorts and a plain light blue t-shirt. You are welcome to leave your child’s PE bag in school and we will send it home at the end of every half term for washing.
The children will be going to Forest School once a week. Please leave a pair of welly boots in school (labelled with your child’s name) for both Forest School and outdoor play.
Every child should have a spare pair of socks in school in their PE bag.
Please make sure that your child has appropriate clothing for outdoor play, e.g. a waterproof coat with a hood on rainy days, a hat for sunny days etc. We spend a lot of time playing outdoors and it’s really important that children always have the right clothes for this.
There is a big whiteboard in our outdoor learning area. Please check it at the end of the day as we often put important information on there.
Please label EVERYTHING with your child’s name! We spend a lot of time teaching the children to be responsible for their belongings, but things do go astray and it’s so much easier to reunite lost items with their owner if they are labelled. If you use a pen to label, please keep a check as names often end up washing out and you may need to re-label.
Reading books will be sent home next week with information about how you can help your child with their reading. We will also let you you know about home learning in the next week or two once the children are settled in.
Please check your child’s book bag every day for letters etc.
There are lots of ways to keep up-to-date with what’s happening in both Reception and in the wider school community. You can follow us on Twitter, through our Facebook page, on the school app, through our blogs and of course our website which has all of the important information that you need to know.
At Wormley Primary School, we believe that every pupil should have the opportunity to achieve the best possible start in life. We are committed to breaking down any barriers to outstanding achievement and attainment; one of the ways we do this is through our use of a Government grant called Pupil Premium. Children of families who are in receipt of certain benefits may be eligible for this grant (currently £1320 per annum) which is paid directly to schools to provide educational support to help pupils achieve their full potential. To find out if your child is eligible, details can be found by searching Free School Meals at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk, or come into school where we will be happy to help you.
Finally…
If you have any questions or worries at any time, please don’t hesitate to speak to one of us!
