We hope you all had a wonderful Summer with your family and friends! We are so impressed with the way the children have settled back into school after having such a long time away from learning. We’ve had a wonderful first week back and are looking forward to the year ahead. We have lots of exciting things to learn this half term and can’t wait to get started.
English:
This past week we have been looking at our class book ‘Here we are’. We have continued reading this book and have been doing some writing
focusing on letter formation, punctuation and sentence structure. Following on from this, we are beginning our Fiction topic based on ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, where we will be learning and reciting the tale and making changes to create our own journey story!
Maths:
Last week in maths we carried out some exciting maths investigations which were based on our fluency with numbers to 20. This week, we are recapping our fluency with numbers up to 100 and beginning to develop our understanding of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
History:
Our first history topic is local history. Next week (Monday 21st September) we will be looking at similarities and differences between modern day Broxbourne and Wormley Broxbourne and Wormley in the past. History topic this term is ‘Who was to blame for the Great Fire of London?’ where we will be developing lots of our historical enquiry skills. We will be having a History off the Page coming in on Wednesday 23rd September where we will all go back in time to experience what it was like during that time. More information will follow.
RE:
Our RE topic is sources of wisdom where we will be exploring and retelling Christian stories.
Parent helpers:
Unfortunately due to coronavirus we are unable to have parent carers in at the moment to help with rainbow words or hearing readers in class please. When we are able to have parent helpers we will post a signup sheet up for parent helpers on our notice board.
Home reading:
Your child will have been sent home with a new reading book last week. Please ensure you are reading with your child every night and that reading records are signed by an adult. Thank you.
Home Learning:
A home learning chart has been sent home in a yellow book this week, so keep your eye out for this in bookbags! Home Learning will be due in the last week before half term. All details can be found on the chart once this is sent home.
P.E:
Our PE day is on a Tuesday. This will take place in the afternoon. Please ensure your child’s arrives to school in their PE kit.
