The pupil premium is a sum of money given to schools each year by the Government to raise the achievement of disadvantaged pupils from reception to year 11. This is based on research showing that children from low income families often perform less well at school than their peers and pupil premium is intended to directly benefit the children who are eligible, helping to narrow the gap between them and their classmates.
Funding is for children from low-income families who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years (FSM ‘Ever 6’) or are looked after children or from families with parents in the Armed Forces. If you think your child may be eligible then let us know or visit:
Even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or 2 and receives universal free school meals, you should still register as the school could get extra money to support your child.
The DfE guidelines state that schools can choose how to spend their pupil premium money as they are best placed to identify what would be of most benefit to the children who are eligible. At Wormley, we have a clear Pupil Premium Strategy, which is led by Mrs Harris, to meet the needs of our pupils. This strategy includes extra tuition, additional resources and enrichment activities. We also closely monitor how we use the Pupil Premium and the impact that it is having on our learners.
